3/28/2024 0 Comments The specials encore cddb lookup![]() Most listeners will probably pick up on this in the opening two tracks: the funky “Black Skin Blue Eyed Boys” and “B.L.M”. There’s a lot of jazz, funk, spoken word, and even disco in here. It should be noted here that this album is a bit of a departure from The Specials sound as it existed in the late ‘70s and early ‘80s and thus may not quite scratch the itch for those looking for that pure two-tone sound. This album is fortunately not that either with the exception of one questionable and cringe-worthy moment that mars the album a bit for me. There’s also a risk that social commentary from a band well into their 60s will feel outdated and out-of-touch. ![]() However, the Specials’ most recent release “Encore” is neither of these things. These types of releases often feel flat and uninspired. I think it’s right to be skeptical when an aging, though legendary band releases their first album in 18 years.
